Max's Musings #11

Speed, hiring questions, best green tea, human AI, and more.

Welcome back!

Every two weeks I share my learnings building a new health system, superpower, in public (in <2 minutes).

Today’s word count: 394

Read time: 1 mins 24 sec.

Musing of the Week

The most dangerous word in the english language: “someday”

I see this insidious pattern of people saying ‘someday I’ll do x’.

… ‘someday I’ll date’, ‘someday I’ll start a company’, ‘someday I’ll travel to this place’, ‘someday I’ll learn the piano’.

‘Someday’ usually means ‘never’.

If you notice yourself saying someday, you have three options:

  1. Do it never, because it doesn’t matter

  2. Do it today, because it matters

  3. Do it someday, choose this <10% of the time

Just be wary of option 3.

It’s typically today or never.

Health Update of the Week

Nicotine as a Nootropic

I’ve experimenting with dozens of nootropics.

I tweeted about this earlier this week:

My favorite is nicotine. It doubles my focus, intensity, and (surprisingly) ambition.

It has dozens of other benefits and might even protect against Alzheimer’s (see here).

What dose to take?

Some people dose up to 16mg per day. I do 1.5mg every two days.

Which form to take?

Lozenges are my favorite. Nic Nacs are the best brand I’ve found (no added junk).

As always, my full health protocol is at maxmarchione.com/protocol

Brand of the Week

Relentless

My good friend Ti runs Relentless, interviewing the greats. This is the start of his bigger masterplan.

Ti’s set design, branding, and obsession over quality are bar none. Find another podcast that looks like this:

And he tells me he’s just getting started…

Space of the Week

Palazzo Caracciolo di Sant’ Eramo

I love the mix of heritage and modern, and the willingness to take risk with color and lighting.

Article of the Week

How to Succeed in Mr Beast Productions

I was re-reading How to Succeed in Mr Beast Productions. It’s excellent.

A stand out is Mr Beast’s obsession with the key bottleneck.

He suggests to:

  1. Tell people when they are the bottleneck

  2. Define a date to remove the bottleneck

  3. Check in every day

The last point is the most important. Normal people schedule weekly check ins. Mr Beast, like Elon, checks in daily.

I’ve started doing the same for key projects at Superpower — it’s powerful.

Quote of the Week

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man".

George Bernard Shaw

This is my favorite quote in the world right now.
